Purpose MITRE, a "Fortune 100 Best Company To Work For," is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to provide software engineering expertise to the Air Force Mission Planning Program.
Key Functions - Support advanced development efforts by designing and developing prototypes to show what is technically feasible to users
- Evaluate software architectures for complex systems
- Investigate capabilities and limitations of IT technologies, including: Microsoft OSs, .NET, Web technologies, databases
- Translate user requirements into Software requirements and implementations
- Identify and assess program, operational and technical risks
- Participate in tests and user evaluations
- Assess root causes of software deficiencies and assist the government/contractor teams in developing work-arounds and mitigation plans
- Provide prototype demos and occasional briefings to communicate progress to senior management
Required Education/Experience: BS or equivalent and 1 year experience or MS or equivalent
Desired Education/Experience BS and 5 years of related experience; or
MS in Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science.
Required Skills: - Software development of applications and prototypes, and knowledge of processes (e.g., Agile and Test Driver Development)
- Development tools and methods
- Service-Oriented architectures
- Windows technologies (C, C++, C#, COM technologies)
- Some .NET technologies (C++.NET, C#.NET, VB.NET)
- Client-Server architectures
- Cloud computing
Desired Skills - Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Mission Planning software architectures (for military aircraft)
- Military aircraft operations/architecture
- Force/Unit Level C2 Operations
- Database performance measurement
- AJAX technologies
Travel Statement *This position will require overnight travel up to 10% of the time.
Clearance Statement *Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
